The Battleship North Carolina, considered in 1941 to be the world's greatest sea weapon, was the first of 10 "fast battleships" to join the fleet in World War II. The BB-55, as it's known, participated in every major naval offensive in the Pacific, earning it 15 battle stars. Visitors are able to take a self-guided tour of this amazing historic vessel which takes anywhere from two to four hours. The ship has been docked in the Cape Fear River across from downtown Wilmington since October 1961.
